*THE CONDEMNATION*
Many a times, people condemn before seeking explanations.
Some of the approaches used to even seek information from members seem to
condemn them. Many choir leaders today, get ‘mad’ at their choristers who don’t
attend choir practices and events, without finding out what the cause is; this
really discourages choristers.
Some choristers have their personal activities already fixed
on certain days (especially on weekends) and so if you just condemn them for
not being present for a choir activity, you give them a chance to choose.
Some choristers also belong to other organizations in the
church; if they don’t robe on a particular Sunday because they will be performing
a duty in their other organizations, and you condemn them just like that, you
only give them a chance to choose.
If choristers close from work late and manage to come to
practice and you just condemn them of coming late always, you give them a
chance to choose.
There are many other scenarios where choir leaders just
condemn their members instead of finding the cause and offering a possible
solution. Sometimes, it is best to teach your choristers about their
responsibilities, time management, and encourage them to participate regularly
than condemning them just like that; they will always be discouraged. Remember, if there
is no chorister, there is no choirmaster.
